Grade 8 students from 脡cole Bellewood have spent the year creating a breathtaking mural as a legacy project from the graduating class of 2025. Four students were selected to represent each of the Grade 8 classes and, under the guidance of their Vice Principal, collaborated to design a lasting art piece for the school鈥檚 Learning Commons.
The goal was to help transform the space into one that reflects the values of inclusivity, diversity, community, and connectedness. With a nature theme in mind, students sketched ideas to visually represent these values. The final mural depicts a prairie meadow filled with students engaged in learning, with 脡cole Bellewood and its mascot, the Bison, in the background.
Each element was created with thoughtful intention. The students ensured diverse representation in the characters, showcasing various races, ethnicities, and cultures. Indigenous plant life from the Ontario region is featured, along with symbols that represent important days of significance and inclusion.
The mural also incorporates Bellewood鈥檚 school colours and the Canadian flag as a symbol of unity that brings together the diverse school community.
Congratulations to Kexin Liang, Emily Luo, Trisha Haldar, and Maryan Chan for their creativity and leadership. Special thanks to the fellow Grade 8 students who joined in to help complete the mural. Your work has left a beautiful, meaningful mark on 脡cole Bellewood.
Thank you to Vice Principal Roy for inviting us to come see this work and for his guidance and leadership in making this possible.
